Terry Eskenazi is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Koc University. She received her MSc in Social Psychology at the London School of Economics, and did her PhD at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour in the Netherlands. She then continued to do research at École normal supérieur's LNC (Labratoire de Neurosciences Cognitives) before joining Koc University. Her research interests chiefly lie within social cognition and neuroscience, focusing on social decision making and metacognition.
Dicle is a third year PhD student at Koç University. She received her B.A. degree in Psychology from Bahçeşehir University and completed her M.A. in Cognitive Science. She is mainly interested in social influences on metacognitive evaluations and memory processes. Her plans include studying social learning in relation to metacognition, with a developmental focus. When not working, you can see Dicle eating chocolate, making plans for a short-escapade from the city, enjoying concerts, movies, and books.
Deniz studied Western Languages and Literatures Department at Bogazici University, where she developed passion for many fields and improved her imagination. After completing her MA in Marketing at Marmara University, she decided to continue her academic journey as a Marketing PhD student and a SoMi at Koc University. Through collaborating with psychology and computer engineering department, she explores the social side of robotics.
She is also a freelance translator and full-time adventurer. She loves sailing, and snowboarding.
Cansın is a second-year PhD student in Cognitive Psychology programme and a second-year SoMi at Koç University. Previously, she has completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology at Cyprus International University, and an MSc degree in Brain Imaging-Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Nottingham where she studied about the neural correlates of working memory in the processing of emotional material with functional-MRI. She is
particularly interested in exploring the effects of social influence on cognitive and metacognitive processes, especially in decision making. Also, she is curious about how psychiatric conditions might interact with metacognitive abilities. In her free times, you can find her enjoying live music in a local bar or a social dance night. Apart from music and dancing, she thinks that ‘food’ is the sacred fuel of a fulfilled life.
Dilan, 2nd year PhD. student, graduated from Middle East Technical University psychology department in 2018. She also has a minor degree in molecular biology and genetics. She is interested in learned helplessness, metacognitive accuracy, and the evolutionary mechanisms that shaped metacognition. During her free time she loves going to the theatre and concerts.
Hüseyin is a 31st year human being on earth and second year master's student in psychology at Koç University. Before deciding on an academic career in psychology, he studied industrial engineering at Sabancı University. He hated working as an engineer and now he is enjoying life as a psychology student. His research interests are every topic that make him curious and maybe a little furious, which happens to be metacognition nowadays.
Yağmur is a 1st year MA student in Cognitive Psychology. She received her BA degrees in Psychology and Sociology at Koç University. She’s interested in understanding political behavior from a sociocognitive perspective, focusing on the mechanisms involved in radicalism and extremism in political ideologies, in a post-truth context. Outside the lab, she’s a dedicated museum-goer and a theatre lover. She’s also very keen on arts and crafts, mainly painting and pottery.
HANDE ÖZLEM ATAR
Hande graduated from MEF University Psychology program and now continues her education at Koç University as an MA student. During her bachelor, she worked at various laboratories to learn more about the field and realized that she is interested in social decision making processes. Other than seeking to be a researcher, Hande loves just having fun with her friends through Turkish coffee fortunes.
İlayda is a first year MA student in social psychology. After studying economics and psychology as an undergraduate at Koç University, she decided to delve into the area of judgement and decision making. She is interested in studying decision making by integrating different approaches from social cognition and behavioral economics. Besides her life in academia, she loves being an energetic morning person, exploring new places and dancing tango.
Derin is currently an undergraduate student in Koç University and completing a double major in psychology and molecular biology and genetics, along with a minor in philosophy. She's been working as an undergraduate assistant in SoMi laboratory since summer 2019. Topics she is interested in are social cognition and cognitive neuroscience. Current projects she is working on in the laboratory are focused on meta cognition in gifted kids and gesture and meta cognition. Some of her extracurricular interests are watercolor painting and poetry.
Alper is a junior Psychology and Mava student. It is his first year as a SoMi, so far he is very excited and curious about metacognition. He is also interested in photography and cinema.
